About Carmela

Although my heritage is Spanish, my family has been in Peru for over 300 years. I am the oldest of six children and was raised in a family that inspired a great love of art, music, books, travel, horses, family reunions and social events as well as an appreciation for lovely clothes and design. As a fashion model, I developed my knowledge and love of quality clothing which blossomed into a desire to make fashion my business.

I studied at Montemar University in Lima and to further my education, I lived in Canada, France, Germany and studied French and German languages at the Sorbonne in Paris and Essen University in Germany. Living in Paris, the center of the fashion industry, enhanced my awareness of European fashion and influenced my sense of style.

In 2003 on a trip home to visit family and friends, I realized how wonderful it would be to share the beautiful hand made weaving of the Peruvian culture. Peru is home to one of the best wools in the world made from native Alpaca and I started to scour my country for the best and most unique women’s apparel. Since 2003, Inca Textiles has sold ponchos, capes, ruanas, sweaters, scarves, hats and gloves in the United States. Inca Textiles products are hand-loomed by Peruvian artisans using Alpaca and other blends making them silky-soft and comfortable to wear.
